It is interesting that guy that looks like a total nerd may be responsible for so much bloodshed in his own country. He does have a perfect neck for hanging.

My feeling is that his entourage may be in control of events and he is just a puppet.

I could say the same thing about Hitler or Kim Jong. What was it about this scrawny little man that made him so popular?

Bashar was not meant to be president, his older brother Basil was, until he died in 1994, after which his father and then-president Hafez al Assad gave him a crash course on politics and he was set to be the next president... He was then "elected" in 2000 when his father died. They also changed the minimum presidential age from 40 to 37, just for him.

Hitler was a self made man and according to people that met him was highly charismatic. Kim Jong is like Bashar. He is as strong as his entourage allows him to be. It seems that history does not like absolute power. All dynasties based on absolute power go down in flames sooner or later. The reason for it is that eventually they hit a weak link.

It is interesting that Russia and China are betting on Bashar. No matter what their internal situation is, he is a loosing bet.

It is interesting to see that Bashar fits the definition of a terrorist (killing indiscriminately women and children). Hopefully his wife will answer for her lavish lifestyle.
Putin tries his best to help his comrade prove KGB tactics do work.
