Fairly self-explanatory title, but what are the origins of the name of the caribbean archipelago nation of Turks and Caicos Islands?

i hope this topic hasn't come up before, if it has, sorry.

Yes, it has been up before.

Turks comes from the Turk's head cactus, which is indeginous to the islands. Turk cactus in turn comes from the fez, which in old European (who named the cactus and subsequently the island) point of view - albeit incorrect - was a typical Turkish hat.
