Today, 42 years ago, one of the greatest football players of the last century made his last official match.
At the age of 50 !!! he retired from his beloved sport.
His career started in the 1930s at Stoke, and during his player life he set many benchmarks.
He was the first European Footballer of the Year in 1956,
the oldest player in the 3 lion team at the age of 42,
he was the eldest player in the english premier leguage at the age of 50,
and he was the first footballer to be knighted.
As a child i tried to do the Matthews Trick, but my preferencies were in a more rustic way.
Stan Matthews died in 2000 at the age of 85.
