The Ethnic Chinese minorities of Vietnam, Thailand, and Burma have been discriminated against for years.  Ethnic Chinese in these countries have many of the same stereotypes that Jews have in the West (all are wealthy, deceitful with non Chinese, planning financial conspiracies etc.)

The truth is that the ethnic Chinese (like Jews in the West) were forced to emphasize education as a means to suceed against discrimination.  This success leads to a cycle of vicious rumors which linits te oppurtunities available to the Chinese and makes them empphasize education even more.

As far as languages go....  Vietnamese is from a completely different language group than Chinese.  Thai and Laotian are similar (to a degree).  There are over 30 "Chinese"  languages (usually called dialects).  The differences between the dialects are vast so in reality, there are 30 seperate languages "Chinese" languages.   This does not count non Chinese Languages spoken by ethnic minorities.

Cambodia is an Asian nation, but has many cultural aspects in common with India.  Many Cambodians appear to resemble Indians as well.  (to a degree)

I don't know... Tibet maybe? I mean, the Chinese are trying to assimilate them into China and some Southeastern Asians are mistreated due to their poor economy and lack of human rights

There are still a lot of Korean and Chinese elders that hate Japanese, mainly due to the Japanese occuptation and countless crimes that was committed during WWII. Though we should put aside the difference, but I can understand how they still hate them. We are working on it badly. But that would change, since more Korean youths dont care too much about it anymore or most of us anyway.

Some Japanese think they are the most civilized men in Asia. I know. I lived there for some time.

I dont know about Mongolians though.

As far as Thailand goes, at least linguistically speaking.... the Thai people (called Siam at the time) adopted their alphabet from the older Khmer (Cambodian), which itself was influenced by an Indian script (the Khmer culture adopted much from the Brahman Hindus, both in terms of language and religion.)

But the Thai language (in contrast to the script) is tonal, closer to Laotion than Khmer. Indeed, the people of Northeastern Thailand are culturally and linguistically linked to Laos, as that area (Issan) was once a part of Laos.

In terms of discrimination, it seems that Thai people (and perhaps other Asian countries) are much like us in the west -- they tend to discriminate against darker-skinned peoples (who they associate with working-class peasants, always out in the sun.) That would actually put Chinese-Thais at an advantage, in one respect.
