Uri is city in whatever they spoke in Neolithic/Chalcolithic times.
Uri is still city in Basque, though the most common version is
iri/hiri. Other variants are
ili,
uli and even
iru.In ancient Iberia you find dozens of cities that have that pattern with iri, uri, ili or uli as termination or prefix. Some are even easily readable in modern Basque, like
Iliberri (both Granada and Elne):
new town or
new city.
Btw, how many -
berrys do you have in Bitain?
...
I think Latin urbs also comes from the same root ur-, and the word is present in Iriko (Jerico), Irusalem (Jerusalem), Ur, Uruk, Ilion (Troy), etc.
In Basque the word is present in several Iriberri (new town), in Iruinea (the capital, Pamplona) and Irun (another city).
