According to a great Athenian custom, after the revolution/rotation of the Epitaph in the city during the Great or Good Friday,in Easter(I do not know how  it is in English) an idol of Juda(the betrayer of Jesus Christ) was burned.During the Easter of 1847,because of the visit of the French banker Rochild(his name is written in Hellenic,so in case it is not right, plz forgive me) the goverment forbitted the realization of the custom. The Athenian people postponed it for the Monday of Easter and aimed to carry it out in the Plateia Hrwwn(Square of the Heroes).Police authorities jolted in and  the fights spread in the Sarri Street where the house of Don Patchifico,a Jewish with British citizenship, situated because they consider him the inciter of the prohibition. The next day,the British Embassador went forward to a representation in the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs,demanding 886.736 dracmis for the satisfaction of the Don,an exagerrated demand compared to the house damages. The Hellenic goverment refused, supposing that the whole issue was in the hands of Justice. The denial allowed the British to use the incident as an excuse for the naval blockade of the country in 1850,through the British Mediterranean Fleet of Admiral Parker in order to blakmail in the most brutal manner the accomplishment of their ambitions:imposing in the Hellenic kingdom a "friendly" to the British policy, changing the policy which was in favor of  Russia up to then)

The colonial behaviour of the British Empire over the weak Hellenic State provoked the reaction of France and Russia, resulting tto the end of the British-Hellenic agreement, which was signed under the threat of British military action and the hunger of the people.According to the arbitrage of the 2 Great Powers ,the amount of money returned to Don Patchifico was 3.750 dracmis,883.000 dracmis fewer than the British demands (!).Moreover the British were obligated to return other amounts of money which they stole from the Hellenic State under the excuse for the destruction of some " important" Portuguese documents belonged to Don Patchifico. After that,Patchifico departed from the country.

Nicely said!

Furthermore, the "Pactchifico" incident was one of the two reasons that lead the "English" party that was formed after the greek revolution to decline. The blocade on the greek ports caused hunger, desease and deaths, and only brcause of one of our customs!
