(...) Second, the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, the most advanced sailors of the time, only had galleys, which would have sunk within a week of attempting to cross the Atlantic.

The Phoenicians sailed the Atlantic northwards (till at least Great Britain) and southwards (till Gabon or Congo). It's not unlikely that would Carthage had beaten Rome or just remained a solid independent power, America would have been discovered for Euro-Mediterraneans in the first centuries of our age.

While the Carthaginians were able sailors, their ships were designed to sail along the coast or for short sea voyages. The ships usually lacked an upper deck and more ofen than not their were powered by oars or a combination of oars and square sails. These ships were not fit for the rigours of crossing the Atlantic.

The NAtives win by supior arrows

Apart from the obvious lack of horses for their cavalry, the bow and arrow wasn't invented in the Americas for another 1000 years, in fact even slings hadn't been invented yet. The most advanced culture in the Americas were the Olmec who covered much of Mexico. They used obsidian tipped thrusting spears, atl atl, wooden clubs, flimsy shields and no armour, the biggest army they could field is around 8,000 men in this time of sparce population.

Also with little farming on the continant I wonder how Alex would feed his army.

Yes, the book seems like it is total bull crap. How would the Natives win to that force. Superior arrows?
