Its looking to be a great mod:

Historical Battles:

------------
Basic Design
------------

The mod is set between 510BC and 431BC in the Greek World. The map encompasses Greece itself, and the Aegean Coast of Asia Minor.

We plan to include an option for the multiple turns a year script, with four turns per year. We also intend to halt all units during the winter turn, to simulate the fact the the Ancient Greeks almost never fought during those months.

--------
Factions
--------
The following factions will be included in Age of Hellas:

Athens
Argos
Corinth
Crete
Epirus
Illyria
Lokrida
Macedon
Rhodes
Sparta
Thebes
The Ionean Cities
The Persian Empire
Thessaly
Thrace

The remaining five faction slots are being reserved for new factions in the Peloponesian War campaign which is planned to follow the currently in design Persian Wars campaign.

This map shows where the mod takes place, and gives a tentative version of where factions will be located:

------------
The Campaign
------------

510BC - 431BC
79 years, 316 turns.

The campaign starts before the beginning of the Persian invasion. Historically, the Persian invasion started in 492BC, and was effectively ended in 449BC.

In game time, this is 172 turns (43 years). Over a quater of the full campaign.

The main power behind the invasion was removed follwing the defeat of Plataea in 479BC. The Persian fleet was destroyed near Mycale, seriously damaging their influence in Greece.

Persia and Greece were still enemies and fought, but the events were not so dramatic as those of earlier years.

-------
Timeline
-------

508BC - Athens sets up the first democracy
490BC - Persian/Greek battle of Marathon
480BC - Sea battle of Salamis
480BC - Battle of Thermopylae
479BC - Battle of Plataea
450BC - Athens rises to power
431BC - Beginning of Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta
428BC - Revolt of Mytilene - 1 most likely, maybe 2
404BC - Sparta defeats Athens, end of Peloponnesian War.

-------------
Historical Battles
-------------

Currently the battles of Marathon, Mantinea, Thermopylae, and Platea will be included as historical battles.

-----------
Campaign Map
-----------

(screenshots may not represent the final map exactly)
~The Peloponesis: an area of heavy mountains and narrow passes
~A closer view of Lakonia
~Western Krete: watch out for Minotaurs!
~Eastern Crete
~Rodes, and the sea to the SW of it
~The plains of eastern Thrace: not the most visually interesting spot on the map
~Thessaly: a plain among mountains
~Peloponnese and Southern Thessaly
~The Kyklades, a picturesque province on the Aegean, book your hotel today!
~West of Makedonia: sweeping valleys rise amidst monumental mountains
~Area around Attica
~Area around Boeotia

Recently AoH member Lupus_gr has been working on new faction icons for the mod. They are based on a much more artistic style than the ones that we were considering earlier.

Several factions have more than one icon. Please tell us which ones you like better if there are two choices for a faction. You can give them suggestions here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=31011

Prehaps if part  Syracuse could be included, or part of the island it could be another place to add..  Well, what exactly is this, a new Idea for a New Total War game, or what?

Its a mod based off the Rome Total War game. Syracuse is not included as the sea stretch is too far and this is the 1.0  version. They will likely add more and more as time goes on. Keep in midn this is still a very early preview. They have much more work till its finished. They have not even decided on all the icons to use.

Excellent! I loved the Samians, since I'm one myself

Check this site for more ancient Greek shield patterns: http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/se/~luv20009/Greek_shield_patterns _1.html

During persian wars, these were more common than others:
