Topic: Medieval Total War Posted: 22-May-2005 at 00:54 |
Does anyone in the forum play Medieval Total War? I played it day and night, and enjoyed it very much. The details were fairly accurate (though I do point to many inconsistencies, but nothing to impede in enjoying the game.)
I love to hear your ideas on the game, if you played.

Its a brilliant game, but could be a lot more accurate and developed. I enjoyed RTW, but am still waiting for a MTW2 with all mistakes and historical flaws corrected.

With what little time I've had, I've played MTW, but with this "XL" mod
http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm9.showMessage?to picID=836.topic
This modifies the game by making changes to the map (minor), but adding
a whole host of new factions, such as the Armenians, Volga Bulgars,
Portugese, Cumans, Serbians, Bulgarians etc etc....

Interesting
I'll paste it again:
http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm9.showMessageRange ?topicID=836.topic&start=1&stop=20
Its made by someone calling "VikingHorde" - changes the game
drastically for the better. As you can see in the linked thread -
he's good at answering any questions and responding to any comments.
-- Medieval: Total War XL --
This is the final version of the XL mod for MTW (there might be one for RTW, who knows "> ). I made the mod the way I believe MTW should had been, harder and with more factions.
-- Features of version 2.0: --
- New versions of Early, High and Late.
- New map with 9 new provinces.
- 17 new factions. Included are: Armenians, Bohemians, Bulgarians,
Crusader States, Cumans, Genoese, Hospitaller Order, Irish,
Lithuanians, Norwegians, Portuguese, Scots, Serbians, Swedes, Teutonic
Knights, Venetians, and Volga Bulgars.
- The unplayable factions can now be played (Burgundians, Golden Horde, Novgorod and the Papalcy)
- Lots of new units.
- Lots of new heroes.
- Landbriges removed.
- New Hospital, Bank and Royal bank building added.
- 3 pagan religious buildings added.
- Pagan shaman, emissaries, spies and assassins.
- New unit stats (Units have more correct stats and higher morale. Battles are now much harder and fun!).
- Improved AI (Build better units, better empire building)
- New trade structure (The AI can't handle the trade network in the
original game, giving the player a big advantage. Trade income has
therefore been reduced and farm income increased by 30%).
- GA mode playable with all factions.
- New GA and Prebattle shields for all factions.
- New music (large version only).
- Old game still playable, but only with the 9 new provinces.
- Auto-install (very easy install).
- English and Spanish language.
- And more!
MTW - Viking Invasion is needed to play this mod.
The small version (28Mb):
www.3ddownloads.com/strat..._Light.exe
The full version (140MB):
www.3ddownloads.com/strat...2_Full.exe
If you have installed another language version of MTW than English and
Spanish, then you will need to make some small changes to the game.
Copy all the files from loc\eng into the folder loc\"your language"
(Backup the old files just in case).
If you have questions, problems or feedback, then please post it here. This thread deals with anything related to this MOD.
Enjoy! |

No worries mate!
I highly recommend it, one of the best parts is it put a whole host of
factions on the Russian Steppe (Cumans, Volga Bulgars, Russian (in
addition to Novgorod), Bulgarians etc) that would would normally be
empty and relatively easy for the powers of the area to walk through.

Has anyone played the BKB, MedMod, Napoleonic, or any other mods? Are any of the mods as easy to install as the XL? Do any of the mods erase the original game, or do they keep the original game and add campaign platforms like the XL? Can two mods coexist?

Dont have it installed right now because I reinstalled my OS but I always kept a fresh copy of MTW VI.
Also kept copies with MedMod, Napoleonic and XL in a seperate place and then put them in my programs when ready to play. Mods CANNOT coexist.
My favorite was MedMod. Liked the units but it can eventually get too easy sometimes. XL is great because the creator is still listen to players for improvements and better AI.
NapMod ofcourse has the most work and is a different game. Never played BKB.

If you decide to switch to another mod, do you delete the current mod only or do you have to reinstall the entire game? How would you delete the mod?

If you currently have MTW installed on you PC with a mod you dont want to play anymore, it is probably best to just delete it. It sounds like you might currently be in a pickle.
Make a fresh install of MTW, then install VI expansion then update it with official patches. Make a copy of this new MTW folder from your programs files(do you know how to do this?) and store it. This you will use as a base to install new mods on and it will keep you from having to reinstall the game everytime.
It also allows you to have quick access to different mods, its the way I do it anyway.
If you need more details, pm me.

Been playing this again, as the Ottomans, man the battles are so
disorderly and difficult to control, i'd get mad in RTW when one unit
would end up pointing the wrong way, in MTW, entire armies end up being
shafted when you order them to move 20 paces.
Also, i think the archers fire pencils or something
Takes soem getting used too, but the strategic map is much easier,
boring even, your glad to get a battle because its something to do.
Still, i must get the Viking Invasion expansion some time.
Edit: Got it

I love this game and this is not a good thing since I have to study! I like to play the Byzantine Empire (I hate the term "Byzantine" !), at the beginning it's not so easy, but if you menabe to conquer all the mid east till Egypt, nobody will stop you!

So, VI looks good, but there seems to be much fewer units available, or is Creative Assembly taking a huge dump on the Welsh?

Question for Jazz if he is still around. That mod you posted a link
for, does it override the existing scenarios and they set up, or just
add a new one?
