In the Avesatan langauge "Midio" means middle and "Shama" means summer, so "Midioshama" means the middle of summer and it was the name of one of the most important ancient Iranian festivals which was celebrated at the summer solstice, or better to say, on the longest day and shortest night of the year.

It is believed that water was created on this day, so the water had a special importance at this festival.
