Printguru, how bad were things for New Yorkers during the Depression? Worse than rural America?

The port cities were hit the hardest due to the trickle of international trade in the shadow of a fallen market. Over 2 million jobs evaporated almost overnight. During this period you actually had a lot of people leaving the city for rural places to do more service-oriented work. If you were really smart though, you went to Washington DC, the only city that actually flourished at the time due to the expansion of government.

Yeah the recession has wrecked havoc all over the place. I doubt it will get as gritty as it was though.

The new chapter is even grimier
