Hell yeah, its sometimes worthwhile to recrueit your own civ's soldiers as mercenaries, that way they come with anywhere from 2-4 experience points, run them through a city with a blacksmith, and you've got yourself some good troops.
Still think Germans should at least be able to create those units at home though.

Damn, man Germans is too hard, but for all the wrong reasons. You'd think that being relativly poor and having limited barbarian units would do you in, but no, i've managed to save uo 18k cash, and get by on the troops.

Whats hurting me is the bloody rebels, i spend so much time fighting them, i don't get to do anything else, its like most of the military not inside my settlements spend their time hunting down and killing off these rebel (not bandits mind you, but rebels) armies, only them to reappear at an insane rate.

Sod the Germans, good potential for a challenging game, but ruined by the tedious chore of fighting those bloody rebels all the time.

I think I'm going to download this mod for my computer. What would you rate it?

Very good. Basicly a shelf life extension for vanilla RTW if you've done it to death and enjoy campain mode games.
Or alternativly, a more accurate game for the historically pedantic types.

The new 6.1 mod is pretty good. The hiring of your own units as mercenaries is a tactic I always like to use, which has already been said by Cywr. Do not charge cavalry into Sarmatian Foot Nobles because the foot nobles will poom them with their 22 defense.

OK I have clicked on the rometotalrealism link and it just seems to come up with one of those default pages advertising redirection to other things. It's weird and so frustrating. Should I download 6.0 or 6.1 mod? And do I need to get anything else to go with it? And where can I download them from?

Also, is it ok to use the Rome patch 1.2 with these mods?

Cheers.

Constantine, the site owner is trying to sell it off.
New site here: http://www.rometotalrealism.org/

Im still using 6.0 but I would suggest giving 6.1 a shot, and yes.. update your current vanilla with 1.2

Hmm is 6.1 a patch for 6.0, or a whole new install?

A patch then, does it affect saved games?

Wait, does the plain 6.1 patch come with the Latin speeches? Or is that in the music pack?
As i don't really want that.

edit: from the forums

Save games from 6.0 are not compatible and a clean install of 6.0 is required.

I'm gonna finish my Maca campian first.

Edit again: Hmm, there is already a 6.2 in the works (bug fixes) that will be compatable with 6.1 saved games, and my maca game could go on for a while yet. Plus there is talk of a 1.3 patch.
Maybe i should just go ahead with it, but man, a complete reinstall

There is a seperate download somewhere, I think, of the Latin pack itself. Do you really want it for Macedonia?

You already finished your German campaign, how far along are you with Maca as you call it?

I quit the German one. With Maca i've got the southern Balkans, wiped out the Greek Cities, the Gauls and Ptolies there as well as having taken a big bite out of those untrustworthy Illyrians and Thracians, and i'm about to make a move on mainland Anatolia (having taken the Egytian controled Islands in the East Med first)).
Thing is 6.1 supposidly has Macedonian dart slingers, which sounds pretty neat, and they've fixed up the Germans too, given them a few more units and such.

I don't want the Latin pack, it seems a useless gimmick to me, and the speeches are lame once you've heard them a few times anyways. I just wanted to clear up wether it was in the patch, or in the music download, or a seperate download (more music i wouldn't mind).

Illyrians are my best ally. Ive been bordered with them for centuries and they have never backstabbed me. I even have military access and forts on their territory. I guess, why would they attack me.. im practically defending their lands for them?

Dont know about that music pack but many are around. I actually intalled the original music from the game, has more soul.

Yep, you're too far along to quit now.

OK lads just one more question before I stop being a bother. Could someone direct me as to where I can find the new gameplay instructions for 6.0 and 6.1? That is all I need before I am set to continue with this awesome new version of the game. Thanks heaps!

What do you mean by gameplay instructions, anything specific?

All you need can probably come from this site

Installation?

If you have 6.0, you can just install the patch and start a new campaign. I'd look for the hotfix for the Germans, as they're seriously bugged in 6.1. They have a bunch of new, badass units, but a lot of are in small AoRs, meaning Germania has no real good units they can spam.

Gameplay? It's not much different.
