OK, so i install the Total Realism mod, and the 50 cities fix, start the game, new intro movie, new music etc. very nicely done.
Time to start a new game, however, this appears to be easier said than done:

A big WTF dude!

Why would you skip that instruction?

They're unlocked. Be sure and change the "first_time_play" to true in the prefernces.txt.

Cywr, I gave you a link with 12 mirrors to the patch and instructions to change your preferences.txt to true.
Pay attention!

Actually at this point, it probably would have been better to wait for the release for the update which has the fixes and will even contain a 'latin' pack.
Who are you starting of as?

A good. Rome is far too easy in 6.0. Im playing on the hardest settings, a dozen house rules and re-modded it to make it competative(There is conflict on which is the hardest setting actually). Next game will definately be an obscure faction.

Btw, one of the best house rules if you have established an oversized purse.. would be to destroy your ports down to one. "The One Port Rule".

The Sarmatians kick Roman butt in RTR easily. 6.1 might use Darth Formation Mods though.

Use Darths here.

Im currently at war with the Sarmatians as Rome. They are attacking my weak ally Illyrians. So I have a camp or fort over there and protecting them.

The reason the Sarmatians can be tough is because of the low upkeep. Several units of slingers put behind a wall of good Roman infantry or Merc Hoplites should keep them at bay.

Wouldn't arrows just ound slin gers to death?? I myself have faced quite many times that the arrows just pewn my slingers and then...

I once had an enemy with one HA, and in a volley (it was fourth, none had died yet) 7 Cataphracts died... it is a large amount..

Slingers have weak defense because of no armor. I like mercenary Rhodian slingers and some Greek Peltasts for my ranged infantry. If avaliable, I will take some Cretan Archers. As Sarmatia, I pwned everybody easily because of the low upkeep.

Admirals get command stars easier and it takes generals more time to get stars.

Yeah, noticed that.
I also noticed playing as the Germans, that is impossible to train German Warbands and German missile cavalry, you can only recruit them as mercenaries

That stinks, then again, mercenaries are a lot better than they were in RTW, I like playing as phalanx civilizations though. Seleucids are easiest civilization to play as.
