Oldest 1906 San Francisco earthquake survivor dies at 109

SANTA ROSA -- Novato woman thought to be the oldest of five known remaining survivors of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake has died at the age of 109.  Rose Cliver passed away Saturday in Santa Rosa, according to Lee Houskeeper, publicist for San Francisco restaurant John's Grill. The restaurant hosts an annual Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire Commemoration event honoring earthquake survivors.

Cliver will be toasted at a lunch today at noon at John's Grill, Houskeeper said. This year's April 18 earthquake breakfast will also be dedicated to her memory.  Cliver was thought to be one of only three remaining survivors of the 1906 quake. Bill DelMonte, a Marin County resident, attended last year's breakfast at the age of 105, while Ruth Newman, who was 109 in April, lives in Pebble Beach.

Cliver was not able to attend last year's breakfast.
