**UPDATE**

Savvy web surfers finding ways to circumvent Wikipedia blackout

Published January 18, 2012

| NewsCore

SAN FRANCISCO –  Wikipedia has imposed a 24-hour blackout on its English language website, a move that has impacted millions of global users, but some savvy web surfers are already finding ways around the problem.

The shutdown -- which started at midnight Tuesday ET -- is protesting two bills aimed at cracking down on online piracy, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) introduced in the House of Representatives, and the Senate version, the Protect IP Act (PIPA).

Within minutes of the blackout kicking in, suggestions of alternate free information websites proliferated online.

f**k em both.

This is about intellectual property rights and copyright laws not whether or not the aforementioned are being censored or indeed are now censoring themselves in protest. Their concerns lie with the legal ramifications...penalties fines and civil awards they might suffer.....not with being the end all to freedom of information on the WWN.

This/their apparent facade of outrageous indignation remains 'shit disguised in flowers' to cover the smell... nothing else.

Solid points CV.
Wiki gets all its accolades from being the first link that happens to pop up and people click it.
The internet was around before Wiki, there are other sources of information than Wiki and it
all doesn't begin and end with Wiki. Their attempt at protesting will not get anything change
in Congress. When was the last time Congress listened to its constituents and acted?

And the Bill is well written and doesn't have any loop holes hidden that would allow censorship.  Yeah, right.   When was the last time Congress passed a bill that was as advertised?
