For Big Money, a New Option in Big TVs: OLED
Published January 01, 2012 | Associated Press

For flat-panel TVs, the choice for years has been between plasma and LCD. In the coming year, there'll be another choice, at least for those prepared to spend big.
LG Electronics says it's planning to sell a 55-inch set based on organic light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs. The South Korean company is set to show it off at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which starts Jan. 10.
Samsung Electronics Co., LG's Korean rival, will also reveal a nearly market-ready OLED TV at the show, according to three people with knowledge of the matter. They spoke on condition of anonymity because Samsung has yet to make an announcement. Its website says CES announcements will come Jan. 9. |
http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/01/01/for-big-money-new-option-in-big-tvs-oled/ That is mighty, mighty thin.

I beg to differ, we bought a flat LG like 3 years ago and my father is still using it. Still in mint condition! Case of bad luck?

Same here. I have an LG flatscreen now, couple of years old and it is doing great. I even have one here in my office with sharp, rich colors for the HD programs. I've even purchased LG computer monitors and worked the dog out of them before they dyed a valiant death serving me. Nick, seems you picked a bad one.

I don't have an LG tv, but I have all LG appliances in my home. It's been 5 years now and no problems. Same with our cells. they are LG and have had no trouble. It just might be a case of bad luck.

They have already done this on a huge scale in Las Vegas. One of the Casinos has an out side walkway that is covered by an LCD over head. The view changes every 3 minutes.

Maybe now you realize that some bad experiences in your past will not mean every experience you will come across in the future is going to be bad. I believe that the things other people have said means bad experiences are not guaranteed. I'm like most people buying things, I believe that everything is going to be fine with me. Who would buy things in the first place expecting everything to go wrong?

I have been told it depends a great deal on where you buy your products. I didn't get our appliances from a "Big Box Store". I purchased them from a small appliance dealer. The big stores don't have time to worry about the products they sell. If they get a load of TVs and half of them are bad, so what! people will return them and they just send the bad ones back to the co.
If I purchase anything from the Home Depot, I buy it with the knowledge that I may have to return it. I also open the box before I leave the store. Quite frequently items returned are placed right back on the shelves.

Odd. I've heard from my brother-in-law who repairs appliances for a living, that LG appliances are not very good in the long run.

Comparatively speaking, tjadams, do they do any worse than any other up to date makes and models?

According to him, they are fine, in the short run, but parts are hard to find in the US for them.

In the current economic climate, which has been around for some time now, those making bad products don't do as well as LG. I think that speaks for itself.
