what influence did the navigation acts, enlightenment and great awakening have on the american revolution? |
The enlightenment placed alot of focus on human reason / intellect and this focus is reflected in the U.S. constitution and the Declartion of Independence...
-When in the course of human events... (Situations exist where it is moral to rebel against a king (divine authority of kings no longer accepted.)
-Endowed by their creator with unalienable rights (rights flow from the bottom up and cannot be revoked (big change from even the Magna Carta where most of the few rights were vague courtesies that flowed from the king down)
-Judged by a jury of his peers (humans determine guilt, not divinely inspired Kings, their designated represeantives or religous law scholars)
-Guilty beyind a reasonable doubt (guilt is determined by reason, not religous texts, laws etc. )
-Seperation of Chuirch and state (People use their concious and reason to select a church / religion )
