This thread we can discuss the Iranian cultures.

Let me get started by saying

What is origins of the Harem Pants that Kurds wear? Is it a Iranian origin or some websites claim it to be Indian?

Also regarding the belt Kurds and Lurs wear, what is the story behind that?

I also notice that some female dress's among Kurds,Persians and Other iranians tend to be similar and even similar to Indians.

If anyone can comment it would be great, as I cannot seem find the answers to these questions.

This websites claims that the Harem Pants to be Persian in origin? but I never seen Persian men wear it apart from the Women.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2738017/the_history_of_harem_pants.html?cat=46

In Persian, the word literally means pants, as it is the Persians who first developed pants as a form of garment.

Harem Pants or better known as Shalvar has it´s origin by Scyths and also were used by parthians and other esuestrian nomads
you can´t find Persian wearing this because they never were equestrian nomads.

I've seen elderly Persian women wear it on a documantry I saw on TV, even the presenter commmented about it.

Did not know that pants have might have been Scythian. But looking at ancient pictures of Scythians they don't seem to be wearing it.

On another note, I have noticed that the current trend among Kurdish men in Turkey is wearing the Arab head bands and even the towel thing with the ring on top Confused.  Nobody from my familly or village wore anything that resembled anything Arab but Kurds from Southern Turkey seem to be wearing it alot.  Even in Diyarbakir and mostly in Mardin which  Turks seem to point to and laugh at.

I was watching a documantry on TV about the "Worlds tallest man" who was a Kurd.  They went to his village and his mother started speaking in Kurmanji and then the camera went to his father and he was wearing the towel thing with ring on his head.  I was like WTF?

You mean this headscarfs? it comes from islamic period. But the clothes (Sal u Sapik ) are 100% Kurdish.

I have never ever seen a persian wearing shalvar show me one Persian from eshafan, kerman, fars or yazd who wears that thing (they are the real persians someone from ardabil isn´t persian just because he speaks farsi)

The documantry I saw, can't remeber what city it was.

Also i cannot seem to find any pictures or reliefs that show Sycthians and Parthians wearing the pants.

Heres what I mean about the Arab fashion among Kurds, the 2nd guy from Diyarbakir.

well like i said it´s from islamic period. You can find islamic traditions in all kurdish parts not only in diyarbakir.

here some kurds from East.

i don´t suppose that you have seen a scythian or parthian wearing that because i don´t thinkyou ever have seen or will see some. Salvars are wel known as riding breechesand they have been brought to middle east and central asia by scyths, sarmatians etc.

I don't see the similarities with the scythians.  Maybe some of the Kurdish clothes are from the Hurrians? Some kurds always mention that Kurdish culture heavily Hurrian, but what part is Hurrian?

Oddly enough I never rememberd anyone from the Village I was born wearing traditional Kurdish clothes, apart from the baggy pants.  They did not wear the belt or the head scarf, might of been because of the Turks.

Heres what my grandmothers wore, this photo is of a lady that is from near the village I was born in.

Old photos from the Qajar harems show that Persian women usually wore shalvar, of course not in public, maybe for this reason shalvar has been also called "Harem Pants"

I have noticed that some Kurds in Turkey have different attire to the rest of the Kurds from the South for example in this video  The male and female dresses are different from the common known Kurdish clothes.

you realy don´t see simmilaritys between this two? the second is Shalvar. It doesen´t have to be 100% the same the art of salvar was brought from scyths in the middle east. Search for it on google or ask some historians i realy don´t want to search for it.
