I was held on 08032008... a month back.....

And the result... for the first time in Malaysia History... very very suprising... As the result showed the parliamentary election was won by BN, but yielded one of the worst results in the coalition's history. Opposition parties had won 82 seats (out of 222 seats in parliament) or 36.9% of parliamentary seats, while BN only managing to secure the remaining 140 seats or 63.1%. It marked also the first time since the 1969 Election that the coalition did not win a 2/3 majority in the Malaysian Parliament required to pass amendments to the Malaysian Constituition. In addition, 5 of 13 state legislatures were won by the opposition, compared with only one in the last election. The states are.. Penang (DAP), KEdah (PAS), Perak (mix - DAP, PKR and PAS), Selangor (PKR and DAP) and Kelantan (PAS)

Barisan Nasional (National Front or BN) is a major political coalition in the country. Formed in 1973 as the successor to the Alliance or Parti Perikatan, it has ruled Malaysia uninterrupted (including the term of the Alliance) since independence. Which is from 1957...

In my opinion... this result shows how Malaysians are responding towards the rulers... And how crucial BN must evaluate their action and policies which lead to this unexpected result.. even the opponent parties also never thought they are able to win like this. The people use the election to express their unsatisfaction...

Maybe can share with any malaysians or anyone who join this forum...

It's a pity the BN didn't lose.

For 50 years they've run Malaysia as an Apartied system. Mahathir Mohamed and Badawi subverted freedom of speech, suppressed opposition and democracy, simply to impose their racist views on the populace.

Already there may be a positive reaction from the result.

Based on article... it just shows on racism.. which is not tht the main and only reason.. As wht I saw myself on each of defeated seats either for parliment or states...

for an example... in Penang. Penang consist of two partitions... one is the penang island. and the other is mainland (Seberang Perai).. Majority people live in Seberang Perai is Malays. And those malays voters... decide to select candidate non malay...

Some people said that the GE 2008 result effect by new voters which are the youngsters...
As myself... who live in the city suffer the most.. due to fuel price increase in how many times in 5 years bck... and also the toll fees... which cause the people... are not so happy with the situation as almost quarter of the salary just for this expenses...

Nonetheless... I always support Mahathir and BN b4.. but nowadays.. i just dont knw...anyway.. vote is confidential... Tongue

I remember watching him (Mahathir) on telly most nights, he was very media friendly, had that man of the people air, even when fitting up Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar Ibrahim is a strange person. Mahathir's socialist boot boy in his youth, US free market crony now, condemned as an Islamic fundementalist by the NB and best friends with Paul Wolfowitz.

Lim Kit Siang was always in my opinion the best option Malaysia has.
