This was posted on another forum, by another member, but it's of particular interest to me - armor history is one of my favorite subjects.  A BMR - a Spanish six-wheeled armored personnel carrier, currently in service but destined to be replaced within two years - has been in storage in the Canary Islands for about thirty years.  The government wants to sell it as scrap, and a Spanish association is trying to save it and display it in a museum of some type.  Consequently, a member of the other forum is making a petition for the Spanish government.

The only thing it requires is an email sent to: salvemosalbmr@gmail.com

Muchas gracias.

As many member of this forum know, the BMR 6x6 APC is one of the main elements of the Spanish army and is one of the few armored vehicles deployed overseas. While a bit too long on the tooth and not suited to the current asymentric warfare of today in Lebanon and Afghanistan, still represents a great leap forwards for Spanish armored vehicle development.

I writing this looking for help from fellow Tanknetters to save the first prototype of this series, stored in a shed in the Canary Islands and with a blowtorch menacing close by. After surivivng for 30 years the vehicle was sent to the Canry Islands to be exposed in the Tenerife Military Museum. Unfortunately the vehicle arrived in not very good conditions and due to lack of money or will to restore it it has been decided to destroy it and sell its remains for scrap.... even after the vehicle was officially declared an historic element to be preserved! sad.gif

The member of the Asociacion Trubia (Circulo Trubia) devoted to the preservation of historic Spanish armor will try to save it. We have set an e.mail address to receive support messages from these who would like this piece of history saved.

Those who would like to help can send an e-mail to salvemos al BMR with the following text:

The e-mails will be forwarded to the Spanish Defence Minister and Army chief.

Thanks!

This isn't the BMR in question, but here's a BMR-600 used by the Spanish Legion.  This particular vehicle was photographed by me during the October 12 military parade in Madrid.

Thanks!
