Very hard to say.  Without the resources obtained from the Earth with explosives, there might have been no industrial revolution at all, or just a smaller one.

Socially, the West wouldn't be as egalitarian, because gunpowder weapons helped destroy the idea of noble superiority when a lowly peasant was able to take a hand cannon and slay a noble knight.

These types of what-ifs are really tipsy.  I mean, you can't really say that gunpowder would never have been created- what's to say that it would not have been invented, say, 20 days or 20 years later than in RL?
