Its true that Thailand successfully avioded colonisation, I've always thought this was due to good diplomacy on the Thais behalf.

but what about indonesians? didn't they conquer southern parts?

I noticed a really neat thing about Thailand. They were never conquered by any foreign power. Even when the Europeans arrived with guns, Thailand actually expanded their border. Even when the Japanese began to conquer much of the Southeastern Asia, Thailand only lost the terroritories that they gained. But her heartland was secured when they made alliance. Thailand is indeed a nation of survivors. Is there any good explainations for this?
