Something I'm developing. It's a cross between the game of "Battleships" and chess for 2 players. Would appreciate comments and feedback. :-)

The Game

The year is 1942 and the Japanese navy is on the offensive. With American naval units heavily depleted after Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Coral Sea, the Imperial Japanese Navy is seeking to strike a decisive blow and consolidate their hold on the Pacific, a prelude to further expansion for the Empire of Japan.

Carriers - Battle of Midway is a turn based game of fleet strategy and close Carrier tactics, pitting the naval fleets of the United States Navy Pacific Fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy against one another.

Based loosely on the actual events of the 4-7th June 1942 Battle of Midway, players take the role of either;

i) Supreme Commander Pacific Fleet of the US Navy in command of three Carrier Groups

or

ii) Combined Fleet Commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy in command of three Carrier Groups

The following Carriers form the core of the Carrier Groups in this game;

United States Navy Pacific Fleet

1.) USS Enterprise
2.) USS Hornet
3.) USS Yorktown

Imperial Japanese Navy

1.) Akagi
2.) Kaga
3.) Hiryu

Game play involves intricate plotting of ship movements and intelligent estimates of enemy positions like in an actual war room of the Admiral's flag ship!  Early detection of the enemy fleet gives first strike advantage, but improper tactical use of units can turn an advantage into a fiasco!

Do you strike deep at the enemy home ports or act cautiously and take the enemy held island in the mid-Pacific?  Do you hunt his Carrier Groups and seek a quick victory by sinking his Flag Carrier, or pull back into a defensive screen to stop his fleet from striking at your mid-Pacific island or even at your home ports?

As either the IJN Combined Fleet Commander or the USN Pacific Fleet Commander, the decisions are yours to make.  Victory is also yours, as is defeat if you plan poorly!
