here in wikipedia they say that there is no written record of the Khmer Empire but still they can tell a lot about this which king there was wich war they say that they got it all from bas reliefs of tempels Shocked
 
How do they come at such many information its impossible to get that many information from bas reliefs

The Khmer are in South East Asia, so we can continue the discussion there.

I'm not entirely sure what a bas relief is, but it's surprising how much information you can tell from a temple. Especially if the tombs of the Kings are in the temple compounds, quite a significant amount of archelogy comes from the remains of religious buildings.

Written records did not survive but many inscriptions did. They record the names of rulers, their victories, defeats  etc

The Khmer Empire, according to wikipedia lasted from 800 CE to 1863 CE when the French Empire took it over. Does anyone know any specific books about this great empire?
