I'll be posting some Afghan cultural music, dance, poetry, etc.
 
Start with this (below) for now.
 
 
malizai, most of the instruments used are traditional & villagers appear during the clip, what part do you think they're from exactly?  Maybe they're not even Afghan! Smile

They are Afghan in the national sense but It is not a pashtun tradition, i would suspect it has more turkic roots with tajik cross over and a northern dance.

The simplicity of the Pashtun attan dance is nice & allows them to be more relaxed & go on longer, unlike some dancers who strain themselves to show off.  The arm movements are pleasant.

It starts of relaxed but ends in a frenzy of sorts, as the steps follow the increasing tempo of the beat.

Hellios,

The dance you showed above is Qataghani, its an Afghan Tajik/Uzbeki dance and rythm. The style is very popular now among Afghan youth today from all major cities, especially Afghans living abroad and it is common in all festive occasions that involve dancing.

great thread, i really like the music in this post. Thanks hellios

Malazai_ to be honest it was hard to watch the first half of  Attan*, but it defiantly picks up at the end. Very tribal looking.

Yes, it starts off as a very civil affair, till you realize why they are called tribal.LOL That video ended way to prematurely, so you can excpect that it serves to have the dance paced out.
