There have been a number of small changes to the forum structure over the last month. The scope of the "Early Modern & Imperial Age Forum"  has been widened. It includes now all World History ( not covered by any other forum such as Post-Classical Middle East, East Asia, etc.) from approximately 1500 CE until the end of World War 1. The "Modern History Forum" now covers World History from 1918 until the present time. Please note that all current events must be discussed in the "Current Affairs Forum" (posting restrictions apply).  +++++
The "Medieval Europe Forum"  has now a sub-forum: "De Re Militari: The Society for Medieval Military History ", the result of a co-operation of All Empires with De Re Militari, an academic association specialised in medieval warfare. Its website contains the "Journal of Medieval Military History" and a wide range of online resources such as essays, primary sources and book reviews. Highly recommended!  +++++
Work is in progress on a temporary sub-forum of the South & SE Asia Forum, where the history of South-Eastern Asia will be introduced and discussed. If you are interested in the history of Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries of the region and would like to contribute to the set-up, please contact Anujkhamar via PM.   +++++
AE has introduced a new project, the "AE History Portal Project". It is an attempt to widen the appeal of AE as a general history website. Providing a comprehensive list of links that is integrated into the main site, would establish AE as a history portal to other quality history website on the net. Such a collection of links would serve a resource for existing members, and will hopefully attract many new ones. Please contribute as much as you can to our collection.   +++++
You may know, (or not) that AE's staff holds regular online meetings in a specially arranged chat-room, where all aspects of our forum are being discussed. The next meeting is in Mid-September with the ranking system, forum structure, staff issues etc. on the agenda. If you have any issues that in your opinion should be added to the agenda, please let us know. Please place a post in this thread.  +++++
The September issue of AE's Magazine will be published any day now. The 8th edition will contain articles on the Scottish Highland Regiments, the Achaemenid Empire, on Indian History, on Lenin,  on the origins of the Cathars, and many more. Contributions to all future editions are always welcome. Please contact the editors, Paul, Rider or Emperor Barbarossa.   +++++
Despite the holiday period, AE's membership has grown in August by almost 500. The total number of posts now exceeds 250.000, an incredible number in just over two years. Welcome to all new members and to those who have returned.  +++++
The current version of All Empires celebrated its second birthday on August 3. Thanks to all members who have contributed in those two years and thus helped to transform All Empires into the most popular and most energetic general history forum in the net. The history of All Empires can be found here.   +++++
If you ever wondered where AE's members are at home, when they are not on walkabout in the world wide web, Northman (Thank you!) provides and maintains the AE's Members' Map. Please add your location in this thread in the "Meeting Hall".
Not many changes in August.  +++++
Omar al Hashim was appointed as Moderator of the South & SE Asia Forum. Omar is a long standing member of AE and will bring his special interest and knowledge of the history of the region into his new position. As the forum has been troubled recently by nationalist propaganda, Omar, and his fellow moderator Anujkhamar, deserve all your support in moderating a sometimes difficult forum.   +++++
Decebal, Azimuth and Poirot are either on prolonged holidays or are being kept busy by work commitments. Please do not expect an immmediate answer if you contact them with your queries or complaints.  +++++
AE is continuously updating its staff. If you are interested to join, please contact Komnenos by PM. Please read the criteria for prospective staff members and please, do understand that not all applications can be accomodated.
Post of the Month:
For the second time in a row,  a post by Constantine XI was voted as "Post of Month". His highly informative and balanced contribution to one of the frequent discussions on the history of the crusades found general acclaim:
I feel the need to clarify what actually occurred in the 7th century Near East, as the understanding presented here needs some rectification. The situation for the peoples living in the Byzantine Near East at the time of the Arab invasions was pretty awful. On the one hand, they were persecuted for being mostly Monophysite rather than Orthodox Christians, and persecuted heavily. The Byzantines throughout their history were notoriously intolerant of heretics.

Also, the local population was traumatised and fearful after having suffered heavily from the recent Byzantine-Persian war. Although Byzantium had won, the populations in the region had suffered heavily. Exhausted by warfare, the local population anxiously sought a power who had the military strength to guarantee them some peace.

Many congratulations!
Please nominate your "Post of the Month' here.
The "Itapevi Memorial Prize"
for the most absurd post of the month, goes to......., no it's not him this month,..... but no one other than the great ITAPEVI himself, in his most recent incarnation as ITAPORA, for this wonderful contribution:
Dear Lord Jesus.
Thank you for not killing me before I had a chance to accept you as my Personal Savior.
I believe that Liberals and Democrats are under the control of Satan
and his sneering minions, the educated and the well-traveled.
I do not want to be tossed into the incandescent flames of the sadistic hell you created for those who did not vote for George W. Bush or waiver in their faith by questioning the honesty, competence or syntax of Jesus'anointed.
Please Lord Jesus I want to become a True Republican and a Real American. I accept you as my Lord and Savior.
I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day and floated
off to your invisible, exquisitely decorated mansion in the Holy
Ghost's subdivision in the clouds while an audience of early Republican prophets looked on.
I believe that in voting Republican, I am doing the implacable will of
Originally a spoof prayer on another website, our Brazilian friend pasted it, and seems to have taken it serious. Many Congratulations !
 Picture of the Month

After August's picture of the month wasn't all what it seemed ( please see: The Adnan Hadji Story ), this time a less controversial image:

An old Nooristani woman with her (great ?) -grand son.
A wonderful image, capturing both, the gap and the bond between two generations of a tribal people.
