Hello all Smile;
 
I have some questions on the Ottoman military during the time of Suleiman the Magnificant.
 
1. What was the approximate size of the regular army?
2. Besides firearms, what were the weaponary of the Janissaries and their tactics?
3. How did the Ottoman army as a whole fight in this era? Did they use a tercio like system like the Spanish?
4. Besides the galley, galliot and xebec; what kind of ships did the Turkish use in warfare?
5. Was there some sort of standard Ottoman infantry? I know of the Janissaries and the bashi-bozuks and other irregulars; but who else filled the Ottoman ranks?
6. Who were some notable commanders in the 1570-1580's?
 
Thank you and I would love any websites that have something of this era as well.
