note: The B-2 bombers are flying out of a base in Guam. they aren't able to land or take off from Carriers as far as I'm aware of.

yeah, the kittyhawk is the last carrier of that class that is still being used. It's due to be decommissioned soon.
The Reagan is a Nimitz class carrier, and theres another nimitz class carrier being built right now. Most likely, it will replace the Kittyhawk.

The Reagan is a really great ship BTW. I've been out to sea on her twice and I have nothing bad to say about her company; Which is a first ...

I live near the Everet Naval base and got to take a tour of the Lincoln last summer. It was amazing. Those are truly massive and powerful ships. I remember hearing that the compliment of one nimitz class carrier is superior to every airforce in the world save 6 or 7, can anyone verify that for me?

I cant verify it officially. Though the Nimitz class carrier has an awesome airwing, the claim maybe an exagerration. Lets say that a Nimitz class carrier's Airwing is 48 ultra modern Combat Aircraft (Advanced Hornets) and 30 advanced support Aircraft. There are more than 6-7 Nations with an Air Force (equipment and training) capable of matching the Aircraft of one or more Nimitz Carriers.

I agree. Being able to afford any plane in the world does not mean the planes are maintained or that the pilots are trained . And this does not even include ground crews, ground radar staff and strategic planners etc.
I think another addition to the list will be Poland once they get all 48 of their ultra modern F-16 Vipers. They already have a wing of modernized Mig 29s and many modernized SU-22 etc.

why not the sauds or the UAE, if you add poland?
UAE order book 80 f16 blk 60 30 mirage 2000-9
ontop of 34 mirage 2000 they already have.
Saudi's have; 134 tornado (48 IDS) 72 F15s 41 F15c
just on order 72 Eurofighters to replace some of those tornados.

The Saudis and other Gulf States have a long history of buying the best equipment in the world and then letting it deteriorate. They have never made the effort to develop the professional military needed to truly use the planes.
The professional Pakistani Airforce is far more lethal than the Saudi Airforce, yet the Pakistanis have far older equipment. That is why the Saudis pay Pakistanis to crew their warships (when they actually sail) and to serve in their groundforces. This prevents Saudis from having to get sweaty.

Well to be fair to the Saudis they hardly have the manpower to support such a military. And supposedly we have a deal which allows us to transfer their equipment to Pakistan in case of war. But yes the word in the Pakistani military is that the Saudis are not exactly the best soldiers in the world. Then again they don't get the sort of op experience that we do on the LOC, in Siachin, at Sir Creek and other places.

Having a large popualtion base wiold help. but a country does not have to be very populous to develop a small, but professional military. Australia and Jordan are good examples. So is Israel. The Saudis have never tried for a variety of reasons.

It's the U.S.S. George H. W. Bush, christened recently at Newport News. The Bush is the last of the Nimitz-class carriers, a transitional ship between that class and the next, CVN21, or twenty-first century class.
Very nice photos of that Guam exercise.
