Windows has released the beta version of Vista for free download off of thier main site. Vista is Microsoft's new version of Windows. It'll eventually replace XP.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx

You can also order a DVD copy from microsoft (for free I think), since it is a huge download.

It's getting interesting reviews. It's graphical user interface (GUI) is supposed to be just as nice looking, if not nicer than OSX. Which is bad for apple because their GUI is all they had going for them LOL

Vista is gonna be  64-bit operating sysem which is good, becuase it means that most future applications and games will be in 64-bit. There is going to be a 32-bit release for those who are still using 32-bit chips and fear any kind of change, like my grandma.

I dual booted it onto my machine today, and it's not too bad. It looks nice, but gets kind of annoying because it assumes that you're a complete idiot and gets in your face with pop-up windows with warnings/unnecessary explanations.

Though, i will say, while it's still in beta mode it's already 100% better than Windows ME or 98.

I remember when i first started using microsoft word. The damn paperclip used to piss me off so much LOL

Oh, and Vista has a built in anti-spyware program (windows defender) which is kinda nifty.

Also, it's password protection system still is quite similiar to the system that XP uses. Considering it takes me about 3 minutes to get past a windows login password for XP, I wouldn't suggest putting any faith in Windows security anytime soon.

Though, it is a big step up from the password system that windows 95/98 used, which takes less than 30 seconds to get past LOL

side question, are the new intel core duo chips fully 64 bit capable?
