Sophre or Tables and Chairs

Ok hi everyone

In a traditional Iranian Home most people eat on a Sophre. 
 
What i want to know is was this tradition brought to Iran by the Arab/Muslims?  And if it was brought to Iran by them did pre islamic Iranians eat on Tables with chairs?
 
If some of you people think this question is a waist of time i am sorry i just wanted to find out where Sophres came from.

ok i suppose i should explain what a sophre is, it is a large cloth put on the ground and when people eat they put thier food and things on it.  So it is sort of like a indoor picknick.
