HOLLYWOOD Dreams
Ivana
Milicevic was born in 1974 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. From a
mixed Bosnian Croat-Bosniak family, she grew up in the city's sprawling
northern suburbs, which were being built almost as fast as there were
new citizens to populate them.
Although it is an era remembered with great nostalgia by Bosnians
today, in reality these areas of Sarajevo were destitute until the city
was awarded the Olympics in the late 1970s (to be held in 1984) and
construction of Olympic villages and venues in northern Sarajevo began.
The Milicevic family could not wait that long. Their talented, vibrant,
ambitious daughter - at just five years old - was already creating a
fuss in the neighborhood with her improv performances and childish
renditions of Yugoslav folk tunes. She wanted to be a singer, or a
dancer, or an actress - and for that, her parents decided, they would
go to America.
The Milicevic family settled in Michigan, amongst one of the largest
Bosnian diaspora communities in the country. Little Ivana was enrolled
in all sorts of after-school activities and never lost her
attention-grabbing, 'give-me-the-spotlight' personality.
Once she finished highschool, she began acting and was - in Hollywood
terms - an overnight 'B list' success. She won guest roles on hit television
shows like Seinfeld, Felicity, Friends, and Nash Bridges. But
television wasn't her dream - she wanted to be a proper, film actress -
the kind of woman she'd seen in theatres in Sarajevo as a little girl.
She had no trouble. Her resume includes:
Jerry Maguire
The Big Brass Ring
Crazy Six
Postmortem
October 22
Enemy of the State
Love Stinks
Kiss the Sky
House on Haunted Hill
Head over Heels
Vanilla Sky
Imposter
Four Reasons
Mail Order Bride
Down with Love
Love Actually
Paycheck
Slipstream
In Her Shoes
Just Like Heaven
The Optimist
The Plague
And recently... the TV show Las Vegas.
Now little Ivana from Sarajevo has finally achieved a dream she
confessed holding for years. She will be... *drumroll* ...a Bond girl.
"I've been getting these sorts of
roles always, my accent, I don't know. This is the top, this is the
icon of the characters I've played." - Ivana Milicevic.
Here's a Spanish actress who has done very well in Hollywood. Penelope Cruz, born April 28th, 1974 in Madrid, Spain. I find her rough spanish accent in American films very annoying, however.
Here's a website listing her credits.
