Behind every great man...

They say that behind every great man is a great woman. In some cases, these men were used as proxies - for example, when female authors used male pen names to ensure their work was considered. In most cases, however, women simply contributed to the man's overall success - in varying degrees.

For example, Albert Einstein - who said himself, if not for his Serbian wife, he'd have been nothing. Now I doubt anyone thinks it was she who decided e-mc2 but she obviously played a role in Einstein's success.

That role could have been simply keeping the necessities of the house in order allowing Einstein to think, of it could have been as indept as crossing some of the first mental ravines for him, leading him on his way.

What role do you think the 'great women' behind all of those 'great men' truly played? Do you have any examples of women who played a very significant role in their men's success? It does not necessarily have to be a husband and wife, Alexander the Great and his mother are a relevent example as well.

Another example is Aspasia, the Spartan wife of Pericles.

Lady Macbeth inspired Mr Macbeth, well in Shakespeare's version anyway.

Lucretia Borgias was the power behind Alphonse d'Este.

Agrippina helped her son Nero become emperor by murdering Claudius.

Perhaps the best example of this is Evita Peron, she is even more famous than her husband, while he was the one who was officially in charge.
