My hometown is more notable for those who burnt it. Lets see old ALex, the Huns, Mahmud of Ghaznavi and Genghis Khan. The last of whom who did such a professional job that the site was abandoned for 800 years and even then the new city of Islamabad still has water shortage issues.

Clears throat - hatfield, UK
Born - William Plantagenet (he died a year later, but it sounds good) Lord Salisbury (British PM), Frances Brandon, The Comet Jet Airliner (1st comercial jet airliner) Iain Dowie, the word 'Tawdry', 'cockadoodle-do the maid has lost her shoe' childrens nursery rhyme about a local murder.
Lived in - Edward, Elizabeth and Mary Tudor, Robert Cecil, William Mey (died 1560 on the day he was made Archbishop of York) John Tailland, Viscount Melbourne (PM), Lord Palmerston (PM), lady Caroline Lamb
'Mother',one of the earliest tanks was tested at Hatfield, Kitchener dismissing it as 'a pretty mechanical toy'
There were 4 mills noted in 1066. I know at least two of them are still in at their original sites, one still works.

I live in Athens but it is not my city, otherwise the list would be huge. My place is near the Macedonian Argos (Argos Orestikon), so I will mention Caranus and Perdikas.

We gave up your happiness
Your hope would be enough;
we couldn't find neither;
we made up sorrows for ourselves;
we couldn't be consoled;

Why should we and why is your opinion objective?

Giannis, as well as any other normal Greek incuding myself, considers Kemal to be one of the genuinely great personalities in history. If you disagree, then perhaps you should mention some sources. My impression is that you know nothing about his achievements. If there is a Turk that Greeks have always respected that's Kemal. The latest one is Orhan Pamuk, both for his books and the fact he was charged with "insulting Turkishness".

My post was about the greatest people born in Thessaloniki, Kemal Ataturk in my humble opinion was the greatest modern turkish politician, so I couldn't (and didn't want to) neglect him.
But, this topic is about the greatest people born in ''our'' cities, so there is no need to discuss about Kemal Ataturk and if he is great for greeks or not.

Bro, why lie for? It is really sad how you say that Zoroaster was born in Tehran, is there any proof to back this claim up with?

Sthar Yama :-: The first King of the Afghan [Aryan] Race. Zoroaster/Zardasht/Ghurghusht :-: The founder of the Zoroasterian Religion Maulana Jallaludin Balkhi :-: The Greatest poet of the world and the Persian language. Kanishka :-: The Greatest ruler of Kushan Empire. Ghurghusht Neeka :-: The Greatest Afghan Warrior
These are the ones i can think of right now, but there is plenty that my city has given birth to, all of them supreme personalities.
