52: Imre Thkly, Copper engraving, 1690's.

53:Esterhzy Pl, 1635-1713, ndor (comes palatinus) of Hungary, the general of the hungarian troups by the siege of Buda in 1686.

54:Bocskai Istvn, hungarian nobleman from Transylvania, between his hajds. He was the leader (believe or not Big%20smile) of the Bocskai-uprising in 1604-1606. The hajds with the short lances were usually officiers in fortesses.
 
55:Bthory as the voivod (princeps) of Transylvania, c-engraving, 1570's.
 
56:The basa of Buda and a "deli" (I don't know, who delis were, he is dressed very similar to hungarian and polish soldiers) by Buda. colored c-engraving, 1617.
 
57:Hungarian noble women by Kolozsvr (Klausenburg, today's Cluj, Romania) in Transylvania. c.c.e., 1617.
 
58:1741. September 11. After the prussian troups occupied parts of Silezia and Bohemia from the Habsburgs, the hungarian nobles gave her their support (their"life and blood") in Pozsony/Presburg/ (Hungarian capitol since the lost of Buda, today's capitol of Slovakia (Bratislawa)).
 
59:Hungarian noble women and a polish soldier (with a horse and an ottoman slawe) in the near of the fortess of Győr (Raab, West-Hungary) c.c.e., 1597/98.

PLC - Hungary

Stefan Batory (1533-1586), king of Poland (since 1576) and prince of Transylvania (since 1571). Painted by Marcin Kober about 1583. He wears delia with long sleeves and żupan.
Compare him to the guy (Ottoman?) on the picture 56.

Untypical costumes worn by noblemen in PLC
 
Part of Polish noblemen prefered to wear foreign costumes at some occasions. 
 
PLC 21. Andrzej Zborowski
 
Polish magnate Andrzej Zborowski painted by unknown painter in 1582.
 
 
 
PLC 22. Władysław Dominik Zasławski-Ostrogski
 
Voivode of Sandomierz and Krakw Władysław Dominik Zasławski-Ostrogski (before 1618 - 1656). The painting was painted by Bartłomiej Strobel about 1635.
 
 
 
 
 
PLC 23. Aleksander Ostrogski
 
Aleksander Ostrogski (1650-1673), son of Władysław Dominik Zasławski-Ostrogski, castellan of Krakw. The painting was probably painted by Andrzej Stech about 1670.

By now, I have shown you typical costumes worn by Polish nobility (usually in civilian clothes) in 16-18th c. As you can see until about 1650, typical costume was composed of żupan and delia, while since about 1650, typical costume was composed of żupan and kontusz (this costume is called Polish national dress).
Now I'm going to show you:
- untypical costumes worn by noblemen
- costumes worn by lower classes 
- costumes worn by women
- costumes of Polish soldiers.

Unknown nobleman from the painting 'Inclinata resurgit' by Bernardo Bellotto (painted in 1762). The nobleman wears kontusz and żupan.

PLC 19. Stanisław Kublicki

 
The member of Parliament (he represented Livonia) Stanisław Kublicki (died in 1809). The painting was painted by Jzef Peszka in 1790-1791. He wears kontusz and zupan

PLC 18. August III Sas

Polish king August III Sas (1696-1763) in Polish national dress painted by Louis de Silvestre about 1737. He wears kontusz (red) and żupan. He has the order of the white eagle (on the blue sash) and the order of the gold fleece (on the red sash).

PLC 17. Part of the painting 'Election of August II' by unknown painter in 1697.

Boys train fighting. They wear kontuszes and keep 'palcaty'. Their trainer keeps 'czekan'. On the left is winged hussar. On the right an archer. Behind him is a Polish jannisary of a guard.

PLC 16. Mikołaj Hieronim Sieniawski

 
Polish field hetman Mikołaj Hieronim Sieniawski (1645-1683) painted by uknown painter in 1683.
He wears kontusz (outer dress) and żupan (under kontusz).
Note - kontusz is a kind of dress which is supposed to be a Polish origin. Kontusz began popular in PLC since 1640's and soon become (always with żupan under kontusz) a Polish national dress.

PLC 15. Janusz Radziwiłł

Grand Lithuanian hetman Janusz Radziwiłł (1612-1655). The painting was painted around 1652 by Daniel Schultz.

'Kasztelan płocki' Stanisław Krasiński (died in 1654). The painting was painted by Daniel Schultz before 1654.

It was painted in the second quarter of 17th c. The nobleman wears 'szuba'.

PLC 12. Jan Kazimierz Waza

 
Polish king Jan Kazimierz Waza (1609-1672) painted by Daniel Schultz in 1650. Jan Kazimierz wears czechman (?) [according to a description in my book it is czechman, but it looks like żupan for me], delia, kołpak (a hat) with 'szkofia'.
