In Roger Godberd records a possible match for the 3 sons is either: - the 3 Col(e)vills (Walter, Philip, Gilbert), or else - "Roger and Walter captured with four other men" 1270, or - the 4 Deyville brothers (John, Robert, Jocelin, Nicolas, Adam?), or - "Roger, Nicholas and Roger and three in their company, coming to the king" 1266, or - "3 of their kinsmen (Roger, Nicholas and Walter) ... knight service" 1252-1255? - 3 Godberd brothers (Roger, William, Geoffrey), or - Wasteneys brothers (William, Stephen), or - Greys (Reginald, William), or - 2 sons of Foliot (Edmond, Roger)? The widow might be the same one that saved RH from the bishop of Hereford. Roger Godberd was connected with the widow of John de Grey in 1271. John Deyville married the widow of James de Audley the younger in 1275.

As you can see throughout this booklet, there are matches in Godberd's records for so many of most of the persons etc in Robin Hood stories that there doesn't seem much doubt that Godberd is the main original Robin Hood. True, some names have been altered somewhere between Godberd's times and the time of the writing down of the stories, and the matches may be made-out to be doubtful by some arch-sceptics/-critics, but the quality and quantity matches that there are seem pretty convincing.
