In my opinion, yes it is problem, but it is not growing rapidly now, so we just need just slow under the control depopulation.

If a nation is unable to feed itself, it is overpopulated.  According to some experts, the sustainable population of the world would be around 3 billion, meaning we need to lose 4 billion.

It shouldn't be just like that. For example: Germany is definately overpopulated country for me. I don't care they can eat enough or less. Food-Human perspective is a way of seeing this unnatural overpopulation is normal.

Normal populated country is also need to left space for wild life. In Germany case, this is about wolves, bears and bisons who never left in Germany now.

In that case, you would have no humans left at all.

Nature's very good with overpopulation, ever played Foxes and Rabbits?

When there's lots of rabbit's there's plenty of food for the foxes and they start to increase. As they increase they eat more rabbits so the number of rabbits starts to diminish. Eventually there aren't enough rabbits to feed all the foxes and their population starts to drop. As the fox population drops less rabbits are being eaten and their numbers begin to increase again. And hey presto the whole process begins again.

Humans are the foxes and the environment the rabbits. While there is sufficient environment to support us we will continue to increase in numbers until their is nolonger enough environment to support us, when this happens our numbers will rapidly decrease allowing the environment to recover and the process will restart.

There was a model of foxes and rabbits on a scale in London Natural History Museum, but why do we suppose to live this cycle of catastrophe and plenitude

According to some theories, Eastern Islanders never go back their old golden age after eco-problems, so complex organismas not always stand up after big fall.

I suppose with Easter Islanders we are talking about timescale, had they been left alone maybe they would have, but perhaps it would have taken 1000 years. Islands do tend to have slightly different eco rules to mainlands. But species also go extinct, sometimes the foxes won't recover, or sometimes they wipe out the rabbits before their number decline.

However, the "foxes" do not have technology, science, fertility drugs for rabbits (fertilizers), a world-wide transportation network to bring in more rabbits and the ability to clone rabbits at will in places they normally cannot survive.  Nor are they compelled to morally keep every single rabbit alive everywhere in the world.

The problem humanity faces is that we have bypassed all of the natural checks and balances such as War, Pestilence, Famine and Death,  the infamous Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The worlds pop. is increasing at the rate of about 7 million a month.  We are just able to feed ourselves now.  All it would take for a global disaster would be a climatic hiccup, such as that which happened in 1816, the year without a summer.  Population was low enough at the time, that it's remembered as a footnote.  However, today, something like that would cause worldwide famine. Gone are the days when the US had enough surplus wheat to feed the world.

Also, as we are using a lot of cropland to produce bio fuel, a climate burp would have a much deeper impact.

I remember a comparison being made in the nineteen eighties where it was shown that every single person on the earth could stand on the isle of Wight, just off the south coast of England. This would seemingly make it seem as if there couldn't possibly be anywhere near the numbers that might indicate overpopulation. Not a bad trick for the gullible. Over population of course is an issue of resources, as anyone with a logical thought process in their brain should know. Take for instance rice production in the far east. There is enough rice to feed the people, however people in Western countries now have a taste for rice, and the selling of it to those nations makes more money than when sold to the people in far eastern countries. The result is a shortage of a major component of their diet. In such a case the population would have to shrink to fit the available rice supply, or the whole culture would need to change in order to accommodate.

The prices of food are increasing, it is bad to poor people and yes bio fuel is also reason of it.

People in many countries are working just 50% percent not with full capacity. Women don't work also they are working with unproductive old ways. If we can change it, we can produce same much goods with less population.
