Be very careful with this topic.  In the past we have had to restrict posting on this topic to the minefield.

In my opinion there's probably a number of things at play here. In the fourth century AD there is interaction with Alani/Sarmatians at least in these northern regions. Their imprint would have been on the hierarchy as these nomadic horsemen were from their hierarchy. Within their societies there is a divide between the hierarchy and the rest, although not in a racist sense, but ability. The Alani/Sarmatians believing in gaining power by assimilation or by being assimilated become a part of the society. Also in gaining power Alani/Sarmatian society adopted large groups, bringing them under their control, and also bringing under which ever name they were being known as. This means that these two groups of Gujars may have either been the same people, with a section of them being influenced by the Alani/Sarmatian groups, or another conquered people were brought under the Alani/Sarmatan element control, adopted and brought into the area.

What a handsome figure of a dragon. No wonder I fall madly in love with the Alani Dragon now, the avatar, it's a gorgeous dragon picture.
