An ebook I read says he was actually a Black African and that the original Canaanites/Phoenicians were Blacks.

It's more likely Hannibal's ancestors were Semites who migrated to North Africa from what is now Palestine (presumably to escape the Israelites). DNA test a Carthaginian skeleton, and you will have your answer

Noah cursed his grandson Canaan with perpetual slavery, but there's no mention of his skin turning black. However, the first murderer Cain was given a "mark" to set him apart from his family. Some people believe this was black skin but, again, the bible doesn't say so

If Hannibal was a Black African, what difference would it make to his achievements? If the Carthaginians had been a Black nation, what difference would it make to their place in history? I don't see how anything would change.

Anyway, the coin shown in the linked article actually proves that Hannibal was an elephant. There were lots of elephants in North Africa, and almost all 'Hannibal' coins show an elephant on them, so that proves it.

There are lot of elephants in India also Sidney.SmileThat is my point above:here we speak about character's
roles&personalities in History not about color of skin. Before Mandela South Africa has had white presidents.

If he existed, which I personally doubt, and have not yet been shown any evidence so far to prove otherwise, then we can be sure of one thing, he probably wasn't white. Could he have been black with the Carthaginian speaking a Semitic language, actually yes there's a possibility. Could he have been the product of a mixed relation, again there's a possibility.

Though I have little doubt that we might have all spoken a similar language at one time, I'm not too sure as to any real evidence as to what that language may be. Any ideas from you, medenaywe? As for there being a Hindu connection here with the Sumerians, do you have any links, and evidence to the belief of such a connection?

There is about a zero percent chance he was even part black. Didn't exist? Here the burden of proof lies on you.

Could he have been black with the Carthaginian speaking a Semitic language, actually yes there's a possibility. Could he have been the product of a mixed relation, again there's a possibility."

By just what proofs can you make the above statement? Other than his existence the rest of your post is merely bunkum! We cannot be sure of anything regarding the past since most of it is hearsay, etc.!

"It's more likely Hannibal's ancestors were Semites who migrated to North Africa from what is now Palestine (presumably to escape the Israelites). DNA test a Carthaginian skeleton, and you will have your answer"

It is just as likely that he was Phoenician or Greek or Italian or even a Goth or Vandal!

Well young yomud, just why should he be of Black African ancestry?   What evidence supports that idea? And if you have evidence, is it first hand or secondary, or less?

You must know that on the continent of Africa there were as our currently accepted chronology accepts, numerous variations of human colors and languages. But, continue if you have a good point!

Thank you yomud! It is nice to receive a compliment! But whether it "red or yellow, black or white", his story is forever.

But was he real? Perhaps he was merely a good story?

From the movie; "I am Hannibal!"

This is your opinion only!! I don't see any racialism in describing a person as a Black African or Negro, to differentiate them from North Africans, such as Egyptians who are not Negroid. In order to decide whether or not a comment is racist, one must first consider the context in which the term is used. After seeing the stuff you post, I think your comments are overbearing and dictatorial.

The colour of his skin is irrelevant. What is relevant is what he accomplished. But as yomud said, the question was "What if.....". Well my reply to the question would be that it would change history again, as there is no reference in history to an African Negro leading North African semites into battle in Eurasia.
