The Syrian hardliners remain the thugs of the Mad Theocrats in Iran; until they are eliminated the Syrian atrocities continue. Ongoing dangerous situation aided and abetted by a, by and large defunct, NATO's ability and willingness to act.... led by a clueless-appeasement oriented US political leadership. Hopefully it gets interesting and my stocks go up.

Iran threatens retaliation on US military bases within minutes of attack
Well if they do...it wont last long after......what's left is another question. Look for the IG to proceed if they believe Obama wins a second term... probably in late Sept or mid Oct....as he is not nor will not be their ideological friend. Worse treatment by any administration in the history of US/Israeli relations.

Analysis continues on the regime in Syria. At the heart of it is the fundamental acknowledgement that at the regimes staunchest supporters now defect and or begin to question the actions in the CW...how much more pressure might be needed to get rid of Assad. Or conversely how much will be exerted to keep the clan's support from crumbling.

In a sense the Taliban demonstrate a good capitalist attitude even tho they remain fundamentalist thugs.

They remain a lot more like the old Mafia then most realize. Ntl eradicate and eliminate as feasable.

As their fundamentalism far outweighs any real meritable consideration; even criminal capitalism. And unfortunately we will in the end be forced to allow them their day. Inevitable really. So get rid of as many as possible to prevent further procreative efforts at what will become future terrorists.

The key remains India and not Pakistan or the fleas biting on the ass of democracy attemps in Astan...but the US varying admins never seem to see it.

Now normally I dont pose questions here but merely provide this as info....but reference the following....and no I haven't read it yet. But presume these guys did not reveal ops techniques and or strats given their background not to mention binding security agreements signed generally for life. (Which would presume to confirm they were not stupid enough to reveal classified info as per the lawyers and publishers would want to ensure).
But is there a difference here between them and Assange. And if so what in your opinion?

Always a security consideration is the policy engaged in by leaders. Read and heed. Because how they are chosen is key to understanding why they act. True tis basic Poli-Sci/Mil History 101.....blame that old APMS/PMS status and credentials syndrome I retain.

Excellent analysis. And particularly apt is this:

''Whichever candidate wins the White House this fall, Miller says don’t expect to see much change in U.S. policy toward the region.

“What you see is what you get,” he says. “A very difficult road for the United States to try and protect its interests.”

Potential if not actual corruption leads to blackmail. And when it involves a member of NATO still actively egaged in trade with Iranian jihaddists...it's a security threat.

''Iranian Leverage over Turkey?''

''....In 2012 and 2013, Turkey quietly paid Iran for its natural gas purchases in gold, in circumvention of international sanctions against Iran to curb its nuclear aspirations. The gas-for-gold scheme between these two countries reportedly yielded Iran $12 or $13 billion.''

Six Russian planes entering the American Defense Identification Zone,[ADIZ]  while not a new thing, it's timed to send a message.

That's a good pick Red.

Yes it's a message, imo. though official sources don't currently make that connection..viz Ukraine..especially after their top leader's appearance before a joint session.

But it's also so become nearly routine (10 per year over the last 5) that other sources have it as ongoing reconn testing of NORAD-NorthCom alert systems and reaction times.

Various sources out there:

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/09/19/us/russian-plane-incidents/index.html

What you don't see or hear is exactly when they were spotted and how long it took to intercept. And you won't. For obvious reasons.

Trust Iran?

...''In his address to the UN General Assembly last week, President Obama called the conflict in the Middle East “a fight no one is winning.” I think the evidence suggests he’s wrong. I think Iran is making significant gains.

That should distress us because the Islamic Republic, no less than the Islamic State (also known as ISIS and ISIL), is committed to waging jihad. Iran’s 1979 revolution was led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini -- a Persian, Shi’a, Islamist version of Lenin. His intention: to spark a global uprising against the West.

Khomeini championed social justice – of a sort. “If one permits an infidel to continue in his role as a corrupter of the earth,” he said in a 1984 speech celebrating the birth of Mohammed, “the infidel's moral suffering will be all the worse. If one kills the infidel, and this stops him from perpetrating his misdeeds, his death will be a blessing to him.”

Among Khomeini’s disciples: Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Iran’s current president, the “moderate” Hassan Rouhani. Last year, Rouhani observed: “Saying ‘Death to America’ is easy. We need to express ‘Death to America’ with action.” His most strategic action to date: pushing back Obama’s red lines on Iran’s acquisition of a nuclear weapons capability.''
