I hope this is the right area of the forums for this, if not I am terribly sorry.
So I've recently, for the first time ever, learned something about my heritage. I've known I had a bit of German in me, but now understand (at twenty years of age) my grandfather was East Indian (could be POSSIBLE that it's from just about anywhere in India, but that's what I know). He was embarrassed about this, so what he ended up doing early on in his life was changing his surname (lastname/familyname) to Sinclair-Day (believe my name could of come from Singh?). I never knew this, and unfortunately my grandfather is dead, so I can't really get the information from him. So I have now taken an interest in possibly finding out what my original surname is, and even possibly re-adopting it, or adopting a new surname of East Indian (or just Indian) heritage. So here are the few questions I was wanting to ask;
1) Does anyone know if Sinclair-Day (can exclude the -Day) comes from Singh. If not, does it come from any other Indian name.
2) I think I remember that all, or atleast most Indian names, have meaning to them. I was wondering if some names (like most names) are gender specific.
3) Could anyone list down some surname and first names that would be for a male. Preferably something that goes together lol. And if possible, any meaning that each of them have.
4) Any basic information you can give me based on Indian names etc that you think I may find helpful would be great.
