Which one was the greater power in the 8th century? Both fought many wars with the Arabs and both had its successes. But it seems the turgis had more success. Afterall, the arabs never sacked their capital or subjugated them.

arabs sacked the Khazar capitol, but could not subjugate the Khazars practically. Khazars continued to be nonmuslim. Anyway, the Khazars became a real power after that defeat.

Turgish invaded (actually came with the call of local Budist cities) the rest of Soghdia on the north of Syr Derya (cities cush as Tashkent) when the arabs invaded Sogdia in the south of Syr Derya. They attacked the arabs...

The Khazars once lost their capital to the Arabs, the Türgish never lost it to them, yet the Eastern Gök Türks overran their lands at least two times. Besides, the Türgish Qaghanate was no more after 766.
