Not just polliticians, all of humanity should be engaged in philosophy and philosophical thinking to some extent, everything involves philosophy and mathematics in my opinion.

You should try to understand the prominant philosophers of different cultures not just focus on one, this will give you a better understanding of the society world-wide, its differences and similarities. European, Greek, Middle Eastern, Chinease, Turkic, Indian etc philosophies, philosophies of religion, economics, pollitics and goverance also are recommended.

Batu, your country (Turkey) had & has philosophers - ask Bulldog for some names.  Also balance it with something from other countries, India, China, etc.  If you want suggestion about Greece just say.

Batu, we have a sticky thread under the philosophy and society forum "political philosophy e-book resources". As a political scientist, I can advise those books. Here's the link:

It should be necessary that politicains have some understandings of philosophies.
On wich philosophers:
Rousseau, Mill, Marx, Hobbes, Locke, Aristotole...the usual! But more important should be the reading of ethicists by politicians. Peter Singer has some interesting ideas for example. Nietzsche and Sartre would also provide a good base learning for politicians
