I also think the island is Baja California. But Baja California isn't an island. lol Must be a publishing error for the map. |
Although we don't have the date of the map, it appears to be mid-late 16th century. The California coast had been explored by the Spanish, and visited by Drake in the 1570s. The size of the land mass surely makes it Baja California - just mistaken for an island.
