I suppose with Easter Islanders we are talking about timescale, had they been left alone maybe they would have, but perhaps it would have taken 1000 years. Islands do tend to have slightly different eco rules to mainlands. But species also go extinct, sometimes the foxes won't recover, or sometimes they wipe out the rabbits before their number decline.
