The Allied ships were better armed than their Egyptian and Turkish enemies, and their crews better trained, resulting in a rather quick victory. Some say that, due to the larger number of Turkish ships present, if the Allies had not been properly in position, the battle could have gone the other way.

By the year 1827, the Ottoman Empire had seen much better days. Besides, they had not enjoyed any type of naval supremacy since the Battle of Lepanto,. In a battle against world-class naval powers of Britain and France, they did not stand a chance.

I find it admirable the French and Russian commanders put aside any potential for bickering and simply gave primacy of command to the British Admiral Codrington. That was most definitely the smartest thing they could have done, and Codrington proved himself to be a very capable commander. Such a pity about the gratitude he was given by Wellington. Not a bad general that Wellington, but such an aloof snob.

The allied ships attacked with an unexpected visit so Ottomans already wouldn't have been victorious even they would have better ships.
