Could be coming from any number of theological systems ancient or contemporary. Might even be a representation of some specific herb or plant associated with long living properties used in ancient or current folk medicine or mysticism. So I would begin there.
That particular representation reminds me of the Acacia pycnantha.

It's handling suggests a woodcut. Stylistically, it doesn't give me any clues, though it would appear to be fairly modern. [Within last 300 years].
