I was wondering if anyone knew about the supposed radio transmission that was intercepted by two Italian brothers on May 23rd, 1961? This transmission captures the voice of a Soviet woman who is clearly panicked over "reentry" and "heat". Three days later, on May 26, the Soviets stated that a city-bus sized satellite had been destroyed during reentry without specifying anything else about it.

Official they have admitted only one disaster in manned space exploration in flight return mission.Till today all cosmonauts have been military stuff in Russian space program.During the Cold War no one knew what did happen in developing space programs on both sides.Here is official version of mission of Soyuz-1:

How many others suffered the same fate? I'd imagine many American astronauts were also killed in early tests and their deaths kept secret to reassure the population

 The problem with the Lost Cosmonauts theory is the source of the recording. There were a number of stations - civilian, government, etc. - listening in on the Soviet space program but only one station ever got anything relating to Lost Cosmonauts. They picked up Laika, they picked up Gagarin, etc. but only the brothers got the woman.
