I must say i am completely blown away by how you guys know EVERYTHING about anything everywhereClap You must all be geniuses or full-time historians. I'm only 15, but sadly i can't see myself ever reading enough history to know all of this, yet alone remember it. Could you freaks of nature tell me roughly how you came to know and remember so much history, how long it took and your age? Or am I just reading post by people who spend a lot of time reading and checking before posting something? Sorry if haven't placed this question correctly, but it is for improving my history.

Hi Mido,

I don't think we have any actual full time paid historians as members.  We have many who are studied enough to be.  I'm 62 and I've been a student of history all of my life, yet I still read constantly.  When I post I usually always check my facts, as there are predatory types who hang around here just waiting to pounce on any inaccuracy. Wink You will find most of us do.

As for being 15, we have had editors of the magazine at that age.  As the old saying goes, "you have to start somewhere".  Our average age here is roughly 18-25, with a smattering of older.Big smile  The level of intelligence however is very high.

Join up, hang around a little, get a feel for what's going on.  Careful though, history can be addicting.

It takes time Mido and even after all these years I do not claim to know it all when it comes to history. The more I have learned the more I have realized how much I do not know. I am 40 and have a BA in Liberal Arts which included a lot of history. I also have an MA in history with studies in Pre Greek civilizations to Hellenism. When I was 15 years old I was more into hiking and backpacking than history. If you have a museum in your area try volunteering and then learn about what it takes to become a historian. Please don't think any of us know it all and it took time to learn what we have.
I also read a lot and have traveled to Europe several times and have visited some of the great archaeological sites and museums, in the USA also.

My dear Mido-san! I hope with a name like Mido you might well be Japanese? If I am wrong I apologize! But, like so many others here, we are maybe "addicted" to the search and truth of the past? I know that in many ways, I am addicted to the ends of time! But, more than an addiction, it is basically a "love story", and endless seccession of stories from which we have to place ourselves within the characters which history has thrown before us, and contemplate both their possible lives and their place in our own past!

Mostly, it is mythological! It is hard to believe a lot of what we call "consensual history" since it is mostly beyound our senses to realize just how different most things were in the past than they appear to be today?

So, read up! Pay attention! Dispute everything! Do not acknowledge anything you cannot believe is proven beyond a reasonable doubt!
