There is nothing bogus in it. almost entire India was under the single rule during the reign of Maruyas, Mughals and Tughlaqs. Marathas almost conquered the entire India before the arrival of British. The aim of the Shivaji (founder of MAratha empire) was to create Hindvi swaraj -Self rule of the Indian people.  Apart from that the entire north India was under single rule during the rule of Guptas, Harsha, Palas, Gurjara pratihara and then again during the sultanate era.

That's what I meant. King Porus was an Indian king of an Indian kingdom, although river Hydaspes is not in modern day India.
