Topic: Sql errors when trying to change profile info. Posted: 01-Dec-2008 at 02:49 |
When I try to make changes to anything in my profile, I get an SQL error like the following:
Server Error in Forum Application An error has occurred while writing to the database. Please contact the forum administrator.
Support Error Code:- err_mySQL_update_USR File Name:- register.asp
Error details:- Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Query-based update failed because the row to update could not be found.
Can someone assist me with changing my profile information please?

Unfortunately, a few profiles suffer from this error which cannot be corrected directly.
It is due to more transition of the database during the last couple of years, most notably a conversion from MS Access to mySQL.
However, we can arrange that I delete your account at a specific time, and then create a new account with the same username and details as the current account. This is the only way to bypass this problem.
Let me know through PM when it suits you.

Thanks for letting me know what's up.
You can delete my account today sometime (12-1-08) and I will re-register later today or early tomorrow.

Oh, also, I'm going to be changing my user name to Dara (or something similar).

You solved the problem yourself - and I'll take care of Xirian next time I'm in the database.

Same happens for me actually - mainly when posting in the modern culture subforum. The post still goes through, but an error page appears.

The error tends to crop up when posting at certain forums. Seems to be one of those weeks where it is most evident. Hang in there.

I'm currently working on upgrading the forum software to a new version that probably will take care of this glitch in the software.
However, please remember it's an old and huge database - it has lived through more conversions and we must expect to see a few bugs now and then.
The alternative would be to start from scratch with an empty forum, but that would be the last route we should walk I think.

Yeah, it's not really that bad, North. Now please slowly step away from that red button. I know you were just trying to scare the kids, but no more of that crazy talk. I still remember that 'Can' thread, we lost. I saved the picture of Ulrich you posted.
This time I was lucky, but I don't ever wanna lose anything as valuable to my life as much as this picture.

Yes King - Ulrich is a Jack of many cans - but there is a limit to everything. Looks like 12 for him
The New Version...
I just made the last few adjustments to the new version of software. (ver. 9.54)
You wont feel or see much change though - its all behind the lines in the scripts but should take care of some bugs.
Correction: 13 cans - had to get my socks off....

Do you know why some mobile browsers won't accept the java scripts for the text boxes ( in particular Opera Mini 4.1 and up, and Pocket Internet Explorer, while some other forums are rendering fine? Is it more software related and then of course which scripts that browser can handle? Back on topic: We can handle a few glitches here and there. It is better than starting from scratch and losing valuable content.

No, I can't say I know for sure - but it probably has to do with the java interpreter installed on the mobile compared to the java applets on the websites.
Some computers are using the SUN standard interpreter and some the MS Virtual Machine.
Sun and Microsoft never could agree on one standard and some older javascripts (sun standard) cannot run on MSVM and Sun won't allow MS to copy the code... - lawsuits and so on.... - its a mess - in particular for the users.
